Fireworks

Like thousands of Americans last night, after dark we watched with great delight, wonders and "Ooo's and Aaah's" the Fireworks that lit up the sky in celebration of 237 years of Freedom as the United States of America.

In my taste of music, I love contemporary Christian music along with the 80's. I don't know much about the music of today or its artists. But there is one song that has become a staple in the Dendy home as Faith and Joshua and me dance around the house performing all the appropriate dance moves that accompany the song "Firework" by Katy Perry.

Listen to these lyrics...

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag
Drifting through the wind, wanting to start again?
Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
Like a house of cards, one blow from caving in?

Do you ever feel already buried deep?
Six feet under screams, but no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there's still a chance for you
'Cause there's a spark in you?

You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

'Cause baby, you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go, oh, oh, oh
As you shoot across the sky

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go, oh, oh, oh
You're gonna leave 'em falling down

You don't have to feel like a waste of space
You're original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow

Maybe you're reason why all the doors are closed
So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road
Like a lightning bolt, your heart will blow
And when it's time, you'll know

You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go, oh, oh, oh
As you shoot across the sky

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go, oh, oh, oh
You're gonna leave 'em falling down

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It's always been inside of you, you, you
And now it's time to let it through

'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go, oh, oh, oh
As you shoot across the sky

My iWitness...

Next time someone says to you, "You're a piece of work...", proudly stand up and proclaim with all you've got, "Yes I am! I am a Firework! With a soul full of colors so bright that it makes my heart go "Boom, Boom, Boom! And when God is done shooting me across this sky of life, just watch my sparks fade and fall into the hollow of God's hands of grace and joy!"

The scriptures are full of images of "Light."
In fact the word "light" is used 277 times in the Bible.
Jesus is the "light of the world" and the darkness has not overcome "the light of the world."
Like a city on a hill our light shines bright in a world darkened by so many things.
We are called "children of light."

Do you think of yourself as a "Firework?"

I do...

Better yet...

God does!

Let God ignite His light within your heart...
Sparkle and Shine and Shoot across the sky...
There is no one like you!
There is no one who shines like you!
There is no one who bursts with the same combination of colors like you!
There is no one who goes, "Boom, Boom, Boom" like you!
There is no one who can make the world go "Oh, oh, oh" like you!
Make every day like the night of the Fourth of July!

Is the world ready for you to be the Firework?

Better yet...

Are you ready to be the Firework God created you to be?

And that's my iWitness...
Laugh often and Fear not!
David!

For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works (fireworks?);
my soul knows it very well.
                                  (Psalm 139. 13-14)
