Seemingly out of nowhere at 5:04 yesterday afternoon the Bell Tower on the Quad of the University of Dubuque broke out in praise of the Lord God Almighty by ringing out the great hymn of "How Great Thou Art."
In no time I found myself whistling along and singing the words in my mind and out loud...
Verse 1:
O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.
Chorus:
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!
Verse 2:
When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.
Verse 3:
And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.
Verse 4:
When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"
My iWitness...
When the world is falling apart
And your mind and soul have begun to dart
I know not the end
But I do know where to start
"My God, how great thou art"
I will proclaim
For You and you alone take away all my shame
To You and you alone I will offer all the praise and fame
When I look at the flowers and the trees
The birds and the bees
People short and tall
Blondes, brunettes, redheads and those with no hair at all
Praise fills my heart
I shout, "My God, how great thou art."
Today will bring its share of trouble and pain
That gives me no reason for His name to disdain
Whether half full or half empty is my cup
My downcast eyes will reverse their course and look up
My spirit will start to tremble, start to raise
All will fall away as I begin to praise
The day ahead is like an empty canvas of art
I will paint it with the colorful words of "My God, how great thou art."
Give it a try just for once this day
Whether the Lord gives or takes away
Lift up your voice
Make it your number one choice
To shout from the bottom to the top of your heart
"My God, how great thou art."
And that's my iWitness...
Laugh often and Fear not!
David!
And Job said, “Naked I came from my mother's womb,
and naked shall I return.
The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away;
blessed be the name of the Lord.” (Job 1. 21)
