Never gives up...

Last night I picked up Faith and Joshua from "Kid's Club", our church's Wednesday night program for kids.

In the crowded parking lot I grabbed their hands, Faith on the left, Joshua on the right as a cacophony of red brake lights and white reverse lights lit up the sky. I couldn't quite locate my sedan in the jungle of mini-vans and Joshua loudly wondered, "How can you not know where you parked?"

Safely in the car with seat belts buckled we were on our way home and that's when this deep theological discussion took place.

Dad: What did y'all learn about tonight?
Children: Awwww, uhhhhh, well, well...
Dad: You don't remember?
Children: Noooooooooooooooooooooo
Faith: The story about the lost son.
Dad: The Prodigal Son?
Joshua: Yes, the son was lost but then he returned home and his father came running to him.
Dad: What does that story say about God?
Joshua: That He will never give up on you...

My iWitness...

Never gives up...

That is really good news for us.
God never gives up on us.

Our co-workers will...
Our community will...
Our insurance companies will...
Our Facebook friends will...
Our "exes" will...
Our friends will...
Our enemies already have...
Even our own families will...
We may even give up on our self...

I am ashamed to admit that there have been a few people in my life and travels that I have given up on.

For many of us whether it be through
hurt or hurdles,
emotional beatings or betrayals,
nonsensical negativity or neglect,
flat out meanness or madness,
we simply do not have the capacity to keep getting slapped in the face by the proverbial "two by four" over and over and over again.

There is only one person who never gives up...

The eternal, immortal, steadfast, patient, loving God.

Listen to these wonderful wooing words of Psalm 121...

I lift up my eyes to the hills.
    From where does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
    who made heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot be moved;
    he who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, he who keeps Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is your keeper;
    the Lord is your shade on your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
    nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all evil;
    he will keep your life.
The Lord will keep
    your going out and your coming in
    from this time forth and forevermore.

Whether you are going out or coming in...
The Lord runs to you...
He never gives up...

And that's my iWitness...
Laugh often and Fear not!
David!
