The practice started after the bloodiest battle in the United States short history.
After the Civil War, moms and dads began decorating the graves of their sons and daughters who had fought so valiantly for the Confederate or Union forces.
Not too many years later the practice became a national holiday. The last Monday in the month of May is set aside to remember the men and women who fit into this very honorable category...
"All gave some... Some gave all."
Let us always remember and let us never forget, the liberties and the freedoms we enjoy are due to the ultimate sacrifice of these men and women.
Carry high the flag, decorate the graves and pray for the families whose hearts are hurting this Memorial Day...
My iWitness...
The practice started after one of the bloodiest and shocking battles in human history.
After Jesus died on the cross several women went to decorate his grave after he had fought so valiantly for the forces of God and Good.
Not too many years later the practice became a national holiday. The first Sunday after the first full moon after the Spring equinox is set aside as Easter Sunday which remembers the Son...
"Who gave his all so that we could have it all."
Let us always remember and let us never forget, that no matter where we live, no matter what type of government has authority over us, it is Jesus and Jesus alone who ultimately sets us free!
"For freedom Christ has set us free." (Galatians 5. 1)
Here's the best news for the day...
There's no grave to decorate for Jesus...
His grave is empty...He's not there...
Jesus is not dead
He is alive!
He is risen! He is risen indeed!
On this Memorial Day, march in the parade of freedom lifting high the flag of the Cross knowing that you have been set free... today and forever!
And that's my iWitness...
Laugh often and Fear not!
David!
ps - Remembering my dear friend Lt. Colonel Skip "Hoss" Robertson who lived by three important principles - God, Family, Country. He served all three very well with great honor and pride. On February 26, 2006 he was ultimately set free..."Fly Skip Fly!" I miss you Skip and I love those two lovely ladies that have been left behind - Debbie and Wendy. I remember all of you on this day in my heart and in my prayers...
